Working Third Shift In A Hotel: My Life as a Pimp and Dope Dealer

Third Shift In A Hotel: My Life as a Pimp and Dope Dealer

By Nate Thayer

Shortly after college  , I worked as a bellman and security guard at a once grand hotel in decline located in the theatre district adjacent to the red like district in  an major U.S. city, known as the “combat zone” for the anarchy that prevailed in the area after dark fell.

As a bellman, I would make my money based on tips, carrying the luggage of new check-in customers, or bringing them room service or addressing their complaints or needs. It was endlessly fascinating to be a voyeur in the lives and conduct of those travelling to a city they are unknown in and the things that their sides repressed at home which often find an outlet when they find themselves able to behave in the luxury of anonymity.

Our clientele ranged from famous actors in the theatres nearby, to strippers staying for extended stays when featured at nearby clubs, to well known musicians, to  high end “working women” who would rent a room long term where they would entertain their regular clientele.

Oh the stories.

The WWF wrestlers used to stay there, their luggage filled with barbells I was unable to literally lift. From Andre the Giant to Killer Kowalski to “Chief Strongbow.” Muddy Waters gave me a 20 dollar tip for carrying one bag up to his room. As did Muhammad Ali. The Grateful Dead stayed there as did actors from Donald Sutherland to Barbara Streisand.

But it was the obscure and unknown who were the most fascinating. The elevator was an old manual that required me to accompany the guest up from the lobby, and I was privy to the illicit requests of many, sexually propositioned by untold numbers of travelers of both genders,  free to pursue unmet desires in a new city far from anyone who might lead to their clandestine activities finding its way back to the ears of friends family or colleagues.

People think bellmen, like bartenders, are a fountain of knowledge. Sometimes they need an ear to vent, sometimes a lust quenched, or sometimes a connection to point them where they can find forbidden pleasure. Drugs and girls were the most common theme.

At a salary of $1.77 per hour, tips were what I lived on. And I developed a system. In a back room, I kept a bar, and in full disclosure, a supply of illicit drugs. I also controlled the ice machine and we charged 50 cents a bucket to be delivered to a room.

Oh my, I can’t count the times I got a request for ice and was met at the door by a half clad women who wanted nothing involving  ice.

A night never passed in the wee hours when I wasn’t asked if I knew where forbidden fruits might be acquired, after the bars closed.

And, technically, I was, i suppose, by strict definition, a pimp.

Never a night passed when a customer wouldn’t inquire where they might find ‘a girl to party with.” The characters that frequented the hotel included a number of freelance ‘working girls’. They were no different than you and me in most ways, though disproportionately had a drug habit that needed financing. But they adamantly refused to be controlled by a pimp—a species with few to no redeeming qualities. Often violent, manipulative and physically and emotionally abusive, they would prey on runaways and the vulnerable and lure them into a situation which left little opportunity to escape.

The independent girls were different. Often educated, holding day jobs, they would service a regular clientele, often with skills of particular fetishes, and keep a room long term at my hotel. I got to know a number and soon was asked if I ever had requests from guests to pass them their way and I would get remunerated a percentage. I did so without reservation as all was consensual.

So constituted my career as a pimp.

“Do you know where i might find a girl around here who wants to have fun tonight,” was a constant request I was asked as I took a new guest up the elevator to his room. I would say I would get back in touch, inform ‘my girls’ and they would do the rest. My only role was to shuttle them up the elevator to the room and back. Well not always….

One young woman, who had leased a room at the hotel for many months ‘while her apartment was being renovated’ called down stairs one night and asked for me.

“My client is coming in a few minutes. Usually I have someone here for him, but he couldn’t show tonight. Do you think you can come up for half an hour. He likes to suck on my tits and have a rubber band put around his balls while a guy jerks him off. I will give you fifty bucks,” she said matter of factly, in a tone as if she was requesting I bring a ham and cheese sandwich.

I make no judgments and refuse to restrict anyone else’s erotic fetishes, but this wasn’t one I had considered or found enticing. I declined. “Why not?” she responded,  genuinely confused. “ It will only take a few minutes and it is 50 dollars.” I think she was missing my point. “I will ask Jimmy at the front desk,” I said, begging off.

Another time, an attractive couple of young ladies had been spending a number of days as guests, and we had several friendly exchanges, often flirtatious. Late one night, they called down and asked for a bucket of ice. I proceeded toward their room and knocked. When the door opened, both stood nude and looking luscious in the room and beckoned me in. “We really didn’t need the ice. We wanted you,” purred one. It was then I noticed the huge black strap-on Dildo on one woman as the other began to unzip my pants. The honest answer was the sight of that thing frightened the bejesus out of me, visions of it being forced up my ass. I stammered and begged off on work obligations and fled as nonchalantly as I could muster.

I fended off the aggressive drunken advances of men trying to force themselves on me as we rode up the lift numerous times, making me realize what women must regularly encounter from the dark, pathetic side my gender too often descends too.

But there were the erotic and welcome moments. A long term guest, a woman of a certain age, would daily call down for ice cube room service delivery and meet me naked when she opened the door, requesting I get on my knees as she lay back on the bed her legs parted and my mouth and tongue reveling in her wet warm luscious pussy, her hands on my head as she fucked my mouth to explosive climax. Sometimes she just wanted to suck my cock and did so with a tender but determined skill and desire. It was mutual desire and lust unleashed, uncomplicated by the dance and energy of seduction.

Oh I have many more stories of both the dark corners of the human capacity and the delicious fantasies that came true in the world of a hotels secret night life protected and encouraged by the anonymity of a new city far from the prying eyes that inhibit the release of our inner desires. Perhaps one day I will share the more intriguing details and memories.

French actor Depardieu Moves to Russian Mordovia Where Punk Band Pussy Riot Rots in Jail: Complains in France “anything different must be sanctioned.”

French actor Depardieu takes Passport from Putin and Moves to Russian Mordovia where Punk Band Pussy Riot Rots in Jail, Complaining in France “success, creation, talent, anything different must be sanctioned.”

The Russian region of Mordovia is best known for its harsh Stalin-era gulag prison camps, which, according to the BBC,  remain Mordovia’s principal employer today. One of the convicted – Nadezhda Tolokonnikova – is serving her sentence there.

French actor Gerard Depardieu arrived at his new home in Mordovia today, after receiving his new Russian passport from Vladimir Putin in the Black Sea resort of Sochi. He left France earlier this week saying “I am leaving [France] because you believe success, creation, talent, anything different must be sanctioned.”

The Russian region of Mordovia is best known for its harsh Stalin-era gulag prison camps, which, according to the BBC,  remain Mordovia’s principal employer today. One of the convicted members of the punk band Pussy Riot – Nadezhda Tolokonnikova – is serving her sentence there.

Depardieu is best known internationally for a 2011 incident aboard an Air France flight during which Depardieu declared “Je veux pisser, je veux pisser!” before urinating in the aisle and being unceremoniously removed from the plane.

Arriving in Mordovia’s main city, Saransk, in the dead of winter, Depardieu waved his new passport as he was welcomed by costumed women, served Mordovian traditional pancakes, blini, and given a pair of felt boots and two kittens.

“I am very happy, it’s very beautiful here, beautiful and soulful people live here,” Interfax quoted him as saying.

Gerard Depardieu 2

Marguerite Duras, who directed him in two of his films, once described him as “a big, beautiful runaway truck of a man”.

Gerard Depardieu, whose ballooning weight has added to his oversized reputation of personality, loves food, owns several restaurants and wine vineyards, and drinks six bottles of wine a day.

Depardieu also is fond of motorcycles, having  survived 17 accidents, only last month arrested for drunk driving after falling off his scooter in Paris, and in August charged with assault and battery after a spat with someone he accused of knocking him from his bike.

The conservative French paper Le Figaro has opined that “in wanting to leave his country, what he is denouncing is a French oppression. It is getting worse and becoming intolerable. This oppression is intellectual, with its weighty conformity; it is moral, with its institutionalized relativism; it is fiscal, with its confiscatory taxes.”

In 2011, Depardieu announced he had moved from France to a small town 800 meters from the French border in Belgium to dodge a 75% French tax rate. He was denounced by the French Socialist government as unpatriotic, “shabby”, and “pathetic”.

“I am leaving because you believe success, creation, talent, anything different must be sanctioned,” he wrote.

Nicolas Sarkozy’s political party head, Jean-Francois Cope, defended the actor saying “I’m sorry to witness how the Socialist government is bringing our country down,” he said. “This fiscal battering is destroying our talents, our artists, creators, researchers, and entrepreneurs – it’s insane.”

Depardieu hailed Russia’s decision to grant him citizenship calling it “a great democracy”.

President Vladimir Putin personally signed the decree granting the actor Russian citizenship, saying “If he’d like to have a Russian passport, consider it settled.”

“I love your country, Russia – its people, its history, its writers. I love your culture, your intelligence,” the former French actor said, adding Russia was “a great democracy, and not a country where the prime minister calls one of its citizens shabby”.

Russia has a flat 13% personal income tax rate. The former French actor stars in an advertisement for Sovietsky Bank’s credit card.

Which all goes to show that Americans have as much fun making fun of France as our French friends have making fun of us. And both be equally as smug in our correctness.

I was alarmed to see I had received a tweet this evening from one Kalie Lovell ‏@its_klove who tweeted “Remembering that nate thayer called me a bitch today #almostcried #youarethebitch #rude”

To which one Sarah Noble chimed in another Tweet: “@narahsoble @its_klove he made me cry once haha “

Miss Lovell’s tweet was “liked” and retweeted by 9 other separate, nubile looking, young attractive in that surly- gum snapping-rolling-one’s- eyes-sorta-way, lasses.

My mind raced at the entirely credible plausibility of some hazy misconduct of mine being responsible for the organized public campaign by this small army of enraged and unpredictable antagonists, of which the plausibility was only exceeded by the corollary I had completely forgotten the incident.

This would have been consistent with the fact that such prior transgressions were committed during self induced conditions of impaired memory which previously and some would argue frequently contributed to my having failed to recall my actions for a period of a number of hours. This process of reconstructing events usually began the next morning, and accelerated exceedingly slowly as the next day progressed.

After a cursory bit of sleuthing, I discovered the aggrieved young Miss Lovell is a 15 year old high school student at R.W. Traip Academy, Class of 2014 in Kittery, Maine. Which would make her both about 15 years old and a female, a volatile and unpredictable of crossed circumstances virtually guaranteed combustible at considerably less of a spark than being called a “bitch”.

Among her very long list of other teenage Facebook friends one surly looking “Nate Thayer” of  approximately the same age as his frightingly profiled antagonist and her posse, are from the same town, and apparently students at a nearby other high school.

I am confident that is sufficient evidence that my already unmanageable list of persons to whom I must supplicate myself making amends for past boorish behavior remains crested at its current already altogether distracting and daunting number.

I am very pleased that bullet missed me.

As Sappy an Appreciation of Thanksgiving That Will Ever be Offered from a Grateful if a Bit Loopy American Citizen

As Sappy an Appreciation of Thanksgiving That Will Ever be Offered from a Grateful if a Bit Loopy American Citizen

Like most history, the American holiday of Thanksgiving has a whole catalog of competing theories, each with valid evidence driven data, as to its political and religious origins, what it actually celebrates, and its relationship with ethnic genocide of Native Americans.

Even where, when, and for what reason it is a holiday is popularly mythologized to fit the pre-determined ideological narratives of whomever is forwarding whatever.

In fact, it was not a national holiday initiated by Europeans pilgrims. It first became a national holiday celebrated tomorrow during the U.S. civil war in 1863—200 years later.

And today, it is a phenomena mostly associated with encouraging consumer spending–the starting day for its more jet fuelled, seemingly endlessly hyped sister holiday of enforced Capitalist excess, guilt tripping the masses into spending into debt—Christmas. The day after Thanksgiving is a national shopping orgy, the busiest consumer purchasing day of the year.

That said, for most everyone, in reality it is a day for Americans to relax and do whatever they coose with whomever they choose to share that with. It is a time to fraternize with loved ones, eat in excess, watch excessively promoted sporting contests where extra large people beat each other up as the modern equivalent of Roman gladiators, and celebrate the too often unrecognized good fortunes Americans have been bequeathed in abundance.

We really don’t think about that whole uncomfortable matter of modern histories most successful ethnic genocide, where about 95% of the Native American population was exterminated as Europeans took control of North America.

And really, no ones history is not marked with egregious behavior.

I, for one, feel lucky and proud to be an American, and give thanks for that, despite my countries numerous faults, challenges, and wholesale mistakes. Mainly because I can bleat as loudly and often  and uninformed and randomly as I choose in objection, have the political rights and protection to not be shot doing so, and actually have an effect on policy. I could only wish such a system on the rest of the planet.

The First National Proclamation of Thanksgiving was given by the Continental Congress in 1777 from its temporary location in York, Pennsylvania, while the British occupied the national capital at Philadelphia. Samuel Adams drafted the final version:

“ FOR AS MUCH as it is the indispensable Duty of all Men to adore the superintending Providence of Almighty God; to acknowledge with Gratitude their Obligation to him for Benefits received, and to implore such farther Blessings as they stand in Need of: And it having pleased him in his abundant Mercy, not only to continue to us the innumerable Bounties of his common Providence; but also to smile upon us in the Prosecution of a just and necessary War, for the Defense and Establishment of our unalienable Rights and Liberties; particularly in that he hath been pleased, in so great a Measure, to prosper the Means used for the Support of our Troops, and to crown our Arms with most signal success: It is therefore recommended to the legislative or executive Powers of these UNITED STATES to set apart THURSDAY, the eighteenth Day of December next, for SOLEMN THANKSGIVING and PRAISE: That at one Time and with one Voice, the good People may express the grateful Feelings of their Hearts, and consecrate themselves to the Service of their Divine Benefactor; and that, together with their sincere Acknowledgments and Offerings, they may join the penitent Confession of their manifold Sins, whereby they had forfeited every Favor; and their humble and earnest Supplication that it may please GOD through the Merits of JESUS CHRIST, mercifully to forgive and blot them out of Remembrance; That it may please him graciously to afford his Blessing on the Governments of these States respectively, and prosper the public Council of the whole: To inspire our Commanders, both by Land and Sea, and all under them, with that Wisdom and Fortitude which may render them fit Instruments, under the Providence of Almighty GOD, to secure for these United States, the greatest of all human Blessings, INDEPENDENCE and PEACE: That it may please him, to prosper the Trade and Manufactures of the People, and the Labor of the Husbandman, that our Land may yield its Increase: To take Schools and Seminaries of Education, so necessary for cultivating the Principles of true Liberty, Virtue and Piety, under his nurturing Hand; and to prosper the Means of Religion, for the promotion and enlargement of that Kingdom, which consisteth “in Righteousness, Peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost. And it is further recommended, That servile Labor, and such Recreation, as, though at other Times innocent, may be unbecoming the Purpose of this Appointment, be omitted on so solemn an Occasion.”

George Washington, who led the American Revolutionary War, proclaimed a Thanksgiving in December 1777 as a victory celebration honoring the defeat of the British at Saratoga.

Then on September 24, 1789, the first House of Representatives voted to recommend the First Amendment of the newly drafted Constitution to the states for ratification. The next day, a New Jersey Congressman proposed that the House and Senate jointly request of President Washington to proclaim a day of thanksgiving for “the many signal favors of Almighty God”.

The fellow from Jersey said that he “could not think of letting the session pass over without offering an opportunity to all the citizens of the United States of joining, with one voice, in returning to Almighty God their sincere thanks for the many blessings he had poured down upon them.”

In the first year that there was an American President in 1789, after we ousted our Imperial master, some guy named George in London, who as Imperialists go, wasn’t all that bad a guy, George Washington created the first Thanksgiving Day designated by the national government of the United States of America:

“Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.” Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interposition of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us. And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best. Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.”–George Washington.

George Washington again proclaimed a Thanksgiving in 1795. President John Adams declared Thanksgivings in 1798 and 1799. No Thanksgiving proclamations were issued by the third president, Thomas Jefferson, but James Madison renewed the tradition in 1814 after the War of 1812 when the British got uppity and sacked Washington D.C., burning down the White House. Madison also declared the holiday twice in 1815.

However none of these holidays were celebrated for the bounty of a fall agricultural harvest, or were they held this time of year. They were more connected to religious and political celebrations or commemorations.

It wasn’t until the middle of the civil war which split the countries and caused horrific suffering and uncountable dead and wounded in the mid 19th century that Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day celebrated on the final Thursday in November 1863.

That document reads: “The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle, or the ship; the axe had enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years, with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American people. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility and Union. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed. Done at the city of Washington, this third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the independence of the United States the eighty-eighth.” Proclamation of President Abraham Lincoln, October 3, 1863.

It has only been since 1863, Thanksgiving has been observed annually as a national holiday in the United States.

I suspect that historical narrative will be far from the minds focused later today on televised football, and the stomachs filled to excess with the extraordinary bounty of not just food, but clothing, shelter from the elements, a durable absence of violence as a means of disputes over public policy, and endless opportunity accessible to every citizen regardless of how much money, guns, or political power one possesses. These taken for granted luxuries remain elusive to and the objective of far too much of the planet as the remarkable American political experiment continues, it’s latter chapters far from being written.

Why Gen. Petreaus Fucking Whomever is Really not my Business

Why Gen. Petreaus Fucking Whomever Really Should not Send us into a Tizzy: A Defence of his Mistress and an Indictment of Popular Hypocrisy
By Nate Thayer

I am disturbed by the voyeuristic dismissal, belittling and diminishing of the woman who CIA director General David Petraeus had an affair with. Other than being a legitimate national security issue, which has not been legitimately articulated to my satisfaction, the focus seems to be on the prurient voyeurism and shadenfreude watching successful people suffer as if we are enjoying slowing down to gape at a horrific car accident.

But equally as disquieting is how the issue is being seen, as significant as the news prominence clearly suggests, underlines the fallacy that far too many Americans have about the reality that most people like to fuck, and many do so with people other than the one they are married to.

Paula Broadwell and Gen David Petreaus

Despite what most of us proclaim and perhaps wish we actually thought–that monogamy is the norm of a marriage or any committed relationship– the reality is that monogamy is not the norm. Monogamy is something most people say they believe in and want for themselves. Every survey ever done on this question shows a high percentage of people think monogamy is important to marriage and that affairs are wrong. But such contentions of monogamy as an ideal contradict the large numbers of people that have extramarital affairs. Most people don’t intend to have an affair and most people don’t think it will happen to them—but it does.

The fact is that human beings are NOT monogamous by nature. That doesn’t have to mean they cheat. But to avoid cheating one has to be honest. You can’t cheat if you don’t lie, by definition. Statistics on the percentage of married couples who cheat on each other means that someone is having an affair in nearly 80 percent of marriages. People are bombarded with images of sex in advertising and marketing campaigns.

Conservative estimates are that 60 percent of men and 40 percent of women will have an extramarital affair. These figures are conservative when we consider the total number of marriages involved—since it’s unlikely that all the men and women having affairs happen to be married to each other. Another way to look at it is if half of the women having affairs are married to men not included in the 60 percent having affairs, then at least one partner will have an affair in approximately 80 percent of all marriages.

Then when a Petreaus and his lover get outed, we tsk tsk and moralize. Public disclosure of public figures having affairs is headline news because we are fascinated and titillated by hearing of others’ affairs.

So for the record, I offer the following:

Paula Dean Kranz Broadwell is an accomplished adult married woman who entered into an affair and sexual liaison with another higher profile accomplished public figure, Petraeus. She made a decision, as a married woman, to have an affair with a married man.

General Petraeus and Paula Broadwell

She is no floozy. She was her high school homecoming queen and valedictorian for the class of 1991. She was state student council president, an all-state basketball player and valedictorian of her high school class.

Paula Broadwell is, as of this week, besides becoming a public spectacle with insinuations of being a slut and dishonorable, is a research associate at Harvard University’s Center for Public Leadership and a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of War Studies, King’s College London.

She has lived, worked, or traveled in more than 60 countries during more than fifteen years of military service and work in geopolitical analysis and counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations. She has served with the U.S. intelligence community, U.S. Special Operations Command, and FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces. She has written for the New York Times and Foreign Policy’s Best Defense blogs, and published op-eds in The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Christian Science Monitor, and The Boston Globe as well as chapters in books on counterinsurgency, transformational leadership, and women in defense.

Broadwell graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1995 and was Class Secretary, and graduated number one physically in her class along with a degree in Political Geography and Systems Engineering. In the U.S. military, she had a commended military intelligence career, serving in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies as well as a Master of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She was Director of the Jebsen Center for Counter-Terrorism Studies at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. Afterwards, she began a Ph.D. program at Department of War Studies at King’s College London. After active duty, she is now a Major in the United States Army Reserve.

After a University of Denver dual masters degree in International Security and Conflict Resolution, her proficiency in Arabic and Middle East studies resulted in years working in the Middle East and south Asia. She was given a full doctoral scholarship and a fellowship from Harvard University for study in Syria and Iraq. She is the co-author with respected journalist Vernon Loeb of All In: The Education of General David Petraeus, a biography and profile of David Petraeus

Paula Broadwell and CIA director Gen. David Petreaus

The reasons for fucking people other than ones spouses are legion and varied: Attraction: sex, companionship, admiration, power, novelty, excitement, risk, challenge, curiosity, enhanced self-image, falling in love, desire to escape or find relief from a painful relationship, boredom, to punish one’s partner, need to prove one’s attractiveness or worth, desire for attention, and on and one. Take your pick. The unspoken elephant in the room is that just plain feels good.

Affairs happen in non-marital, “committed” relationships as well as within marriage, but most of the statistics deal only with “extramarital” affairs. These statistics began with Kinsey reported, with samples included 5,000 men, showed that by age 40, 50 percent of the men had extramarital affairs. Kinsey’s study of 6,000 women showed that by age 40, 26 percent of the women had extramarital sex.

So the chasm between popular protestations and reality is a wide gap of hypocrisy. Really the issue is honesty, not fucking more than one person. In other words, not withholding relevant information. I would suggest one can’t avoid affairs without discussing the issue.  It contributed to a cycle of dishonesty that is the unspoken reality that fuels the fictional portrait of the reality of human sexuality. It is absurd to deny for either men or woman, regardless of their marital status of being attracted to someone else. If they don’t admit these attractions, then they won’t admit being tempted. If they don’t admit being tempted, then they are creating a foundation of dishonesty, and that foundation of dishonesty lays the groundwork for acting on what is a normal human emotion–sexual attraction. This fuels jealousy, suspicion, and ultimately infidelity. In my final estimation, you can’t cheat if you don’t lie by definition.

By assuming a commitment to honesty, rather than monogamy, then one avoids the fallacy that attractions to others are other than inevitable, regardless of how much they love each other. And therefore creates a realistic foundation of honest communication about the reality of the sexual attraction and how to act or not on them. The effect is honesty replaces suspicion with trust, making it more likely that a monogamous relationship will result. But more important an honest and respectful one won’t be undermined and often destroyed. Trust is far more an important quality in a relationship, that one won’t deceive the other, than the proven failure of eradicating and denying normal sexual feelings.

Statistics vary but include that 60% of married men and 40% of married woman have had sex with someone other than their wife at least once during their married lives. Even more relevant is the statistic that 70 percent of married women and 54 percent of married men did not know of their spouses’ extramarital activity. Something to ponder is the absurd discrepancy that 90 percent of Americans believe adultery is morally wrong although 50 percent of Americans say President Clinton’s adultery made his moral standard “about the same as the average married man,” and the even more preposterous statistic that 35 percent of Americans thought adultery should be a crime in the United states. An important interesting additional statistic is few of those who divorce as a result marry the person with whom they are having the affair, with one survey finding only 3 percent of the 4,100 successful men surveyed eventually married their lovers and the divorce rate among those who married their lovers was 75 percent. In 2012, One-third of divorce litigation is caused by online affairs and approximately 70% of time on-line is spent in chat rooms or sending e-mail; of these interactions, the vast majority are romantic in nature. 57% of people have used the Internet to flirt. 38% of people have engaged in explicit online sexual conversation. 31% of people have had an online conversation that has led to real-time sex. 2 out of 3 women and 3 out of 4 men admit they have sexual thoughts about co-workers. 86% of men and 81% of women admit they routinely flirt with the opposite sex. 75% of men and 65% of women admit to having sex with people they work with.

The existences of sexual taboos combine to make it difficult for most partners to talk honestly about sex. We get conditioned in deception when it comes to sex—engaging in sexual activity while hiding it from those we love and respect otherwise. Really if one thinks about it, it isn’t just counterproductive and futile, it is goofy. Not to mention that the secrecy and deception contributes to more affairs because the belief that dishonesty will be successful leads many to believe they won’t get caught.

Washington tells bar owner to rename cocktail or face justice

Washington demands local bar owner rename cocktail or he will face justice while religious violence provocateurs remain free to spark World War Three

Addendum update to this story: The plot thickens. It now appears the infamous “Jewish Israeli-American California real estate developer” who produced the movie that sparked this week’s mid east riots, does not exist and is a creation of an Egyptian-American Christian Coptic resident of California, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, who is a convicted fraudster. The other Egyptian-American Coptic, Morris Sadek and the loopy Florida Quoran burning pastor, Terry Jones, were sucked into a trifecta of hate fueled religious intolerance in a perfect storm resulting from their own anti-Muslim zealotry. At the end of this story is the full text of an excellent and well worth the read very long AP story.

Why is it a Washington D.C. bar owner can be dragged into court for violating the city’s Human Rights Act by serving a booze concoction with an off color name, but religious zealots are protected by law when to make incendiary movies and burn religious texts for the purposed of sparking World War Three?

The Washington Post reported today that Tony Tomelden, owner of the “Pug” bar in D.C. named a fruity vodka concoction the “Marion Barry’s Dirty Asian Summer Punch.” which he calls “The Ward 8 Special,” in a sarcastic tribute to the D.C. councilman and former four term Mayor.

The “Marion Berry’s Dirty Asian Summer Punch” is no longer available at the Pug.

Barry was captured on camera making racist remarks earlier this year criticizing Asian shop owners and Filipino nurses.

Drawn on the bar’s chalkboard is a caricature of a bald, slanted eyed, buck toothed Asian under which is written “No tickee, no punchee.”

The bar owner, whose father was half Filipino, received a legal demand from the city ordering him to stop selling the drink and summoned him to a hearing. Failure to comply can be a $10,000 a day fine. “I put it up there for a reason,” Tomelden said. “Barry gets away with this stuff continuously.”

The ‘Pug” bar owner Tony Tomelden

Former four-term mayor Barry, in remarks caught by local TV cameras after being reelected to the city council, said “We’ve got to do something about these Asians coming in, opening up businesses, those dirty shops. They ought to go. I’ll just say that right now, you know. A number of these restaurants serve high-caloric food, bad food, et cetera, but the more important thing, they don’t participate in the community,” Barry said.

Barry said he singled out Asians in his remarks“because that’s reality. Who owns these little restaurants? Who owns them? You know, Asians. . . . 90 percent of all the small restaurants in Ward 8, at least.”

Tomelden was given 72 hours to remove the “Dirty Asian Summer Punch” sign, or face a “formal charge” by the Commission on Human Rights which can result in fines of up to $10,000 for a first-time offender.

The Washington city Human Rights Act of 1977 bars discrimination on the basis of race, gender, religion and various other categories, and says “To print, circulate, post, or mail, or otherwise cause, directly or indirectly, to be published a statement, advertisement, or sign which indicates that the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodations of a place of public accommodation will be unlawfully refused, withheld from or denied an individual; or that an individual’s patronage of, or presence at, a place of public accommodation is objectionable, speech concerns, but it is our unwelcome, unacceptable, or undesirable.”

D. C. Office of Human Rights official Jennifer Stoff told the Washington Post it “was the Office’s judgment that the sign at The Pug was not in keeping the intent of the Human Rights Act. We acknowledge any 1st amendment or political job to enforce the DC Human Rights Act.”

The bar owner was quoted as saying “Look, I’m a fucking bartender, not a constitutional scholar. It’s clearly frustrating, and it is what it is.”

His bar also hangs a vintage sign reading “Irish Need Not Apply.”

“I wonder if they are going to make the Irish bars take down the leprechauns,” he said.

Meanwhile, those who crafted a protracted intentional campaign to incite global religious violence remain legally protected to continue to do so after their efforts proved successful.

Morris Sadek’s Facebook page which he took down early Thursday afternoon after sparking middle east riots

On July 2, a video of “The Real Life of Muhammad” or “Innocence of Muslims” was uploaded to the You Tube account of Sam Bacile, an Israeli-American California real-estate developer who has called Islam “a cancer,”

But it failed to attract attention until another clip of the video — this time dubbed in Arabic was uploaded on September 4.

Days later, an Egyptian-American Christian Copt, Morris Sadek, who is an ally of Florida pastor Terry Jones, both of whom are known for incendiary taunts against Muslims, publicized the YouTube trailer in an Arabic-language blog post and in an e-mail newsletter in English.

Sadek, an Egyptian-American Coptic Christian living in metropolitan Washington, is apparently the catalyst behind whipping up the violence.

A portrait of the man has emerged of an anti-Muslim activist who hates Obama, and is a fan of  the U.S. republican party, according to his own biographical details widely available. Sadek took down his Facebook account at 1 pm on Thursday, but the organization “Right Wing Watch” was able to retrieve it.

It says he is a supporter of ACT! for America, which believes that Obama is a  supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood and he lists membership in an array of frindge hate groups including such names as Islam is of the Devil, Warriors of Christ, and OBAMA IS THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER!

In addition, he has registered himself as a fan of the Republican Party, George Bush, Allen West for president, and other anti-Islamic, conservative, or Republican institutions and leaders.

In an odd irony, he labeled himself a fan of the American embassy in Cairo, overrun by the riots he incited.

Sadek was publicizing a Jones effort to draw attention to the film. Jones is widely reviled, renowned for a campaign threatening to burn the Koran at his church that resulted in widespread riots that left scores dead in injured in 2011.

Morris Sadek blog post publicizing the Arabic version of the anti Muslim film this week features a photograph of him and Florida pastor Terry Jones at an anti-Islamic protest outside the White House in June.

The same day as Salek’s Arabic blog post, Egyptian TV channel Al-Nas broadcast a clip from the You Tube account of the film’s producer, the Israeli-American California resident Sam Bacile.

The Egyptian TV shows host Sheikh Khaled Abdalla, is described as “part of a school of particularly shrill religious demagogues who turn every possible event into an attack on Islam” that regularly attacks the Egyptian Coptic Christian community.

Soon after the television airing, riots began in Cairo, spreading to Libya where the U.S. ambassador was killed in mob violence.

Egyptians burn US flag rioting over bad, obscure anti-Muslim hate movie

How did the U.S. first respond to the violence before it escalated to the storming and burning of the embassy in Benghazi?

“The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions.”

Or,in other words, in comparison to the crackdown on the D.C. Pub owner, with considerably more sympathy for intolerance.

Later, on Twitter, the embassy condemned both the provocative film and the attack on the compound.

Salek was the source of reports in the Egyptian media that some Coptic Christians  in Washington had produced a film denigrating the Muslim prophet, which sparked protesters to storm the walls of the US Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday and tear down the American flag.

Pastor Jones responded to the violence by denouncing the Cairo embassy attack and announcing he planned to screen the film on Tuesday night at his church, adding it “reveals in a satirical fashion the life of Muhammad.”

The Cairo and Libyan attacks took place on the 11th anniversary of the bombing of the twin towers in New York, and the demonstrators chanted pro-Al Qaeda slogans such as “we are all Osama!”,  ripped an American flag apart and raised a black jihadist flag saying “There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger.” Photographs show the name Osama bin Laden scrawled on a sign outside the embassy.

While “Marion Berry’s Dirty Asian Summer Punch” is no longer available at the Pug under threat of harsh punishment, a B-grade movie produced to spark world war three is available globally in one mouse click of the computer, and those whose intent was to incite murder succeeded remain legally protected to continue to do after their success which left an American Ambassador dead.

Addendum update to the above story: The plot thickens. It now appears the infamous “Jewish Israeli-American California real estate developer” who produced the movie that sparked the mid east riots, does not exist and is a creation of an Egyptian-American Christian Coptic who lives in California and is a convicted fraudster, named Nakoula Basseley Nakoula.. The other Egyptian-American Coptic, Morris Sadek and the loopy Florida Quoran burning pastor, Terry Jones, were sucked into a trifecta of hate fueled religious intolerance in a perfect storm resulting from their own anti-Muslim zealotry. Here is the excellent and worth the very long AP story:

The search for those behind the provocative, anti-Muslim film implicated in violent protests in Egypt and Libya led Wednesday to a California Coptic Christian convicted of financial crimes who acknowledged his role in managing and providing logistics for the production.Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, told The Associated Press in an interview outside Los Angeles that he was manager for the company that produced “Innocence of Muslims,” which mocked Muslims and the prophet Muhammad and may have caused inflamed mobs that attacked U.S. missions in Egypt and Libya. He provided the first details about a shadowy production group behind the film.Nakoula denied he directed the film and said he knew the self-described filmmaker, Sam Bacile. But the cell phone number that AP contacted Tuesday to reach the filmmaker who identified himself as Sam Bacile traced to the same address near Los Angeles where AP found Nakoula. Federal court papers said Nakoula’s aliases included Nicola Bacily, Erwin Salameh and others.

Nakoula told the AP that he was a Coptic Christian and said the film’s director supported the concerns of Christian Copts about their treatment by Muslims.

Nakoula denied he had posed as Bacile. During a conversation outside his home, he offered his driver’s license to show his identity but kept his thumb over his middle name, Basseley. Records checks by the AP subsequently found it and other connections to the Bacile persona.

The AP located Bacile after obtaining his cell phone number from Morris Sadek, a conservative Coptic Christian in the U.S. who had promoted the anti-Muslim film in recent days on his website. Egypt’s Christian Coptic population has long decried what they describe as a history of discrimination and occasional violence from the country’s Arab majority.

Pastor Terry Jones of Gainesville, Florida, who burned Qurans on the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, said he spoke with the movie’s director on the phone Wednesday and prayed for him. He said he has not met the filmmaker in person, but the man contacted him a few weeks ago about promoting the movie.

“I have not met him. Sam Bacile, that is not his real name,” Jones said. “I just talked to him on the phone. He is definitely in hiding and does not reveal his identity. He was quite honestly fairly shook up concerning the events and what is happening. A lot of people are not supporting him.”

The film was implicated in protests that resulted in the burning of the U.S. consulate Tuesday in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi.

Libyan officials said Wednesday that Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other embassy employees were killed during the mob violence, but U.S. officials now say they are investigating whether the assault was a planned terrorist strike linked to Tuesday’s 11-year anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.

Nakoula, who talked guardedly about his role, pleaded no contest in 2010 to federal bank fraud charges in California and was ordered to pay more than $790,000 in restitution. He was also sentenced to 21 months in federal prison and ordered not to use computers or the Internet for five years without approval from his probation officer.

The YouTube account, “Sam Bacile,” which was used to publish excerpts of the provocative movie in July, was used to post comments online as recently as Tuesday, including this defense of the film written in Arabic: “It is a 100 percent American movie, you cows.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Leigh Williams said Nakoula set up fraudulent bank accounts using stolen identities and Social Security numbers, then checks from those accounts would be deposited into other bogus accounts from which Nakoula would withdraw money at ATM machines.

It was “basically a check-kiting scheme,” the prosecutor told the AP. “You try to get the money out of the bank before the bank realizes they are drawn from a fraudulent account. There basically is no money.”

The actors in the film issued a joint statement Wednesday saying they were misled about the project and said some of their dialogue was crudely dubbed during post-production.

In the English language version of the trailer, direct references to Muhammad appear to be the result of post-production changes to the movie. Either actors aren’t seen when the name “Muhammad” is spoken in the overdubbed sound, or they appear to be mouthing something else as the name of the prophet is spoken.

“The entire cast and crew are extremely upset and feel taken advantage of by the producer,” said the statement, obtained by the Los Angeles Times. “We are 100 percent not behind this film and were grossly misled about its intent and purpose. We are shocked by the drastic rewrites of the script and lies that were told to all involved. We are deeply saddened by the tragedies that have occurred.”

The person who identified himself as Bacile and described himself as the film’s writer and director told the AP on Tuesday that he had gone into hiding. But doubts rose about the man’s identity amid a flurry of false claims about his background and role in the purported film.

Bacile told the AP he was an Israeli-born, 56-year-old, Jewish writer and director. But a Christian activist involved in the film project, Steve Klein, told AP on Wednesday that Bacile was a pseudonym and that he was Christian.

Klein had told the AP on Tuesday that the filmmaker was an Israeli Jew who was concerned for family members who live in Egypt.

Officials in Israel said there was no record of Bacile as an Israeli citizen.

When the AP initially left a message for Bacile, Klein contacted the AP from another number to confirm the interview request was legitimate then Bacile called back from his own cell phone.

Klein said he didn’t know the real name of the man he called “Sam,” who came to him for advice on First Amendment issues.

About 15 key players from the Middle East — from Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran and a couple Coptic Christians from Egypt — worked on the film, Klein said.

“Most of them won’t tell me their real names because they’re terrified,” Klein said. “He was really scared and now he’s so nervous. He’s turned off his phone.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups, said Klein is a former Marine and longtime religious-right activist who has helped train paramilitary militias at a California church. It described Klein as founder of Courageous Christians United, which conducts protests outside abortion clinics, Mormon temples and mosques.

It quoted Klein as saying he believes that California is riddled with Muslim Brotherhood sleeper cells “who are awaiting the trigger date and will begin randomly killing as many of us as they can.”

In his brief interview with the AP, Bacile defiantly called Islam a cancer and said he intended the film to be a provocative political statement condemning the religion.

But several key facts Bacile provided proved false or questionable. Bacile told AP he was 56 but identified himself on his YouTube profile as 74. Bacile said he is a real estate developer, but Bacile does not appear in searches of California state licenses, including the Department of Real Estate.

Hollywood and California film industry groups and permit agencies said they had no records of the project under the name “Innocence of Muslims,” but a Los Angeles film permit agency later found a record of a movie filmed in Los Angeles last year under the working title “Desert Warriors.”

A man who answered a phone listed for the Vine Theater, a faded Hollywood movie house, confirmed that the film had run for a least a day, and possibly longer, several months ago, arranged by a customer known as “Sam.”
